«Sorafenib» is an anti-cancer drug that blocks protein kinases. It is available in the form of film-coated tablets.

Principle of action: the drug slows down the growth of cancer cells by blocking the blood supply necessary for their development.

Indications

«Sorafenib» is used in adults over 18 years of age for the treatment of:

• kidney cancer (metastatic renal cell carcinoma);
• liver cancer (hepatic cell carcinoma);
• thyroid cancer (locally advanced or metastatic differentiated thyroid cancer that is resistant to radioactive iodine).

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated in the following cases:

• hypersensitivity to sorafenib or its components;
• pregnancy and breastfeeding;
• children (efficacy and safety have not been established).

With caution prescribed for skin diseases, hypertension, bleeding, unstable angina, myocardial infarction, and also when irinotecan and docectaxel are taken simultaneously.

Method of application and doses

The standard dose for adults is 2 tablets of 200 mg twice a day (800 mg per day).

The tablets are taken whole, with water, regardless of meals, but not after a meal with a high fat content - this can reduce the effectiveness. If you plan to eat fatty foods, take the tablets one hour before or two hours after eating.

It is important to take the medication regularly, at the same time every day. Continue taking the medication as long as it is effective and does not cause serious side effects.

Side effects

Possible side effects include:

• skin rashes, especially on the arms and legs;
• increased blood pressure;
