Oxyfloxacin 200 mg (10 tablets) is an antimicrobial agent from the group of fluoroquinolones. The active ingredient is ofloxacin.

Form of release

The tablets are white, round, biconvex, with a risk on both sides. One of them may have an engraving, such as "FXN" on one side of the risk and "200" on the other.

Action of the drug

Ofloxacin kills bacteria by blocking the DNA gyrase enzyme in their cells. It is effective against most gram-negative bacteria and some gram-positive microorganisms.

Indications

The drug is used to treat infections caused by sensitive microorganisms:

• Pyelonephritis and complicated urinary tract infections;
• Prostatitis, epididymitis, and orchitis;
• Pelvic organ infections (in combination with other medications);
• Skin infections and soft tissue infections;
• Cystitis and uncomplicated urinary tract infections;
• Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia;
• Prevention of infections in immunocompromised patients (e.g., neutropenia).

How to take

The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the type of infection, the patient's condition, and kidney function.

Basic rules:

• Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
• The drug can be taken before or during meals.
• Do not combine with antacids.
• Elderly people need to monitor the work of the kidneys, so that the dose is adjusted if necessary.
• If there are problems with the liver, do not exceed the daily dose of 400 mg.

**Examples of application:*Adults with normal kidneys (creatinine clearance more than 50 ml / min). Usually prescribed 400 mg per day, divided into two doses (every 12 hours). In severe infections, the dose can be increased to 600-800 mg.

• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections. 200 mg per day for 3-5 days.
• Gonorrhea. 400 mg once.

Treatment should be continued for at least three days after the temperature has normalized or the bacteria have been eliminated.

Contraindications

The drug is not recommended in the following cases:

• Allergies to ofloxacin, quinolones, or excipients;
• Myasthenia gravis;
• Tendon damage caused by previous use of fluoroquinolones;
• Age under 18;
• Pregnancy;
• Breastfeeding;
• Lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
